Sometimes, all attempts to construct a fistula fail, or the fistula closes after a few days of construction, or a suitable vein is unavailable for fistula construction. A surgical technique called AV grafting, or arterio-venous grafting, is used. This technique uses an artificial tube for creating a junction between an artery and vein, and dialysis is performed through this artificial tube.
